Complete lyrics

“Back”

(Verse)

Back
Back in the quiet whispers of the night
When silence falls like dew upon the earth
We find within our hearts a guiding light
back to a joy, end of sorrow and of worth

(Prechorus)
The winding road with all its twists and turns
leads back to a place where time no longer binds
Where spirit thrives, where inner wisdom burns
and harmony with all believers - fights

(Chorus)
back standing at the edge of all we know
we gaze into the vast uncharted sea
To trust the tides - to let the spirit flow
Hope is where we find our truest - purest plea
Back standing at the edge of all we know
We take the dive - now we are free

(Breakdown)

Back
We are free
We’re back
back
where we are free

(Verse)
Back
Back to the cross will guide - the earth will softly hold
as we become the echoes of the breeze
A faith fulfilled in whispers pure and bold
a timeless dance back where all our spirit’s free

(Prechorus)
The winding road with all its twists and turns
leads back to a place where time no longer binds
Where spirit thrives, where inner wisdom burns
and harmony with all believers - fights

(Chorus)
Back standing at the edge of all we know
we gaze into the vast uncharted sea
To trust the tides - to let the spirit flow
Hope is where we find our truest - purest plea
Back standing at the edge of all we know
We take the dive - now we are free

(Outro)
The cross will guide - the earth will softly hold
as we become the echoes of the breeze
Back standing at the edge of all we know
We take the dive - now we are free

The heart of the song

There are returns we rehearse for a long time before we make them. We remember the place, the person, the prayer. We wonder whether coming back means admitting we were wrong about everything, or becoming someone we no longer are. “Back” lets that longing breathe.

Its movement toward the cross and its image of an uncharted sea place return beside uncertainty. The singer can turn toward home without already knowing the whole road.

A return with room to grow

The song’s voice is moving, rather than presenting a finished life. That matters. A return to prayer, to faith, or to a relationship may begin with a small act that carries more feeling than the person can explain.

There can be grief in it, and relief. There may also be things that need to be said plainly before trust can grow again. The song leaves room for a person who is still finding their footing.

The cross beside the open water

For a Christian listener, the cross can place the song’s longing beside Christ’s self-giving love. The sea gives the journey a different feeling: wide, unfamiliar, and beyond the singer’s control. Together, the images can hold a prayer for guidance.

We can hear a spiritual homecoming here without making every return mean the same thing. Returning to God need not be confused with returning to every situation a person has left. Love, responsibility, and care deserve time in that distinction.

One step, honestly taken

“Back” can be heard as a companion for the small beginning: a prayer after a long silence, a conversation we have avoided, a willingness to stop pretending we do not miss what we miss. It need not promise that everything will become familiar again.

Listen with tenderness toward that beginning. Leave room for the story to unfold at a human pace. May the next step be taken with wisdom, with care for one another, and with a heart willing to receive grace.
